The beneficiary, Abena Andrews, explained that she had approached the members of GUYDA during Guyana’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in New York, at the end of June, and explained to them that she was in dire need of a computer to continue with her education.“I took the opportunity to request a laptop computer, as I became aware that they (GUYDA) would usually assist in these areas, and I was promised a laptop by my father, but he passed and my mother wasn’t financially stable enough,” Andrews said. GUYDA was founded in 2002 and has since made many donations to students in Guyana through the sponsoring of education at tertiary facilities and assisting in the continuation of students’ education through the provision of adequate equipment.“We presented computers, projectors and screens to Guyana Special Needs; we recently sent 20 kids to Essequibo technical institutes, we paid their tuition, and we recently gave partial scholarship to a young lady who starts college next month. And there are many others,” James told Guyana Times.last_img
