VTrans Funds Three New or Expanded Public Transit RoutesMONTPELIER – The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has announced that it will grant three public transit providers a total of $350,000 so that they can fund new or expand popular public transit routes. The funding will establish new bus routes along Route 103 as well as Interstate 91. Expansion of an existing bus route will occur along Interstate 89. Many of the routes include stops at Park and Rides so commuters can easily access the service.”Improving Vermont’s public transportation system is one of our priorities,” said VTrans Secretary David Dill “These new routes are an important step in helping Vermonters not only maintain their independence but also save money as they can now use a bus to get to work, the hospital and even one of Vermont’s signature ski areas.”New or expanded routes include:* Expansion of the I-89er through Stagecoach Transportation Services. The increased service will reduce headways (bus wait time) from one hour to 30 minutes. In addition, the expansion will double the seating capacity on this very popular route, which begins in Randolph Center and travels south along Interstate 89 with stops at park & rides in both Randolph and Sharon on its way to Bethel, White River Junction and finally into Lebanon, NH. The service will include stops at the VA Hospital in White River as well as both Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.* New service along Route 103 from Rutland through Ludlow to Bellows Falls and Springfield. This route will serve Okemo Mountain Resort on weekends during ski season. Service will be provided by a joint effort from Marble Valley Regional Transit District and Connecticut River Transit.* New service along I-91 from St. Johnsbury to White River Junction and then onto Lebanon, NH. Stopping at designated park and rides along the way as well as Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Service will be provided by Rural Community Transportation. When new service will begin, as well as exact bus schedules, are still being developed. Travelers should go to connectingcommuters.org for links to each public transit service provider who can provide more detail.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger sent an email to the association’s members yesterday requesting their support to defend the industry’s tax-exempt status at the local level – though the exemption remains untouched in both the House and Senate bills.“Together, we will continue to defend credit unions and ensure our communities and economy continue to benefit from your good work as well,” Berger wrote in the email.Berger’s message was sent in light of recent attacks on credit unions’ tax-exempt status by members of the banking industry. In the email, Berger pointed members to an independent tax study released by NAFCU earlier this year that found the credit union tax exemption benefits $16 billion to the U.S. economy each year. 11SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr continue reading »

Share on: WhatsApp Los Angeles, United States | AFP | Tennis great Serena Williams hinted Wednesday that she’s expecting her first child, posting a photo of herself on Snapchat captioned “20 weeks”.The photo, captured by US media, shows Williams in a yellow swimsuit with what appears to be a baby bump. The SI Swimsuit model indicated she’s pregnant in a post on Snapchat, but deleted the Snapchat a few minutes after it went up. The world-renowned athlete got engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexi Ohanian in December. The timing means that the 35-year-old American would have been pregnant when she won her record-setting 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January — where she beat her sister Venus in the final.“The GOAT herself @serenawilliams took to Snapchat to announce she’s 20 weeks pregnant! Congratulations Serena!” the US Tennis Association, organizers of the US Open, tweeted.Fans, too, reacted with astonishment on social media.“Serena Williams was pregnant when she won her 23rd grand slam tournament at the Australian Open. And did not drop ONE SET. Let that sink in,” tweeted @noelleharmony.Williams cited a knee injury in pulling out of tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami in March. Her inactivity saw her drop to second in the world rankings, but she is poised to return to regain the top spot from Germany’s Angelique Kerber on Monday. In December, Williams announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, first sharing that news on the Reddit social media site. While pregnancy may spell the end of Williams’s season, it doesn’t mean she won’t be back on court.Belgium’s Kim Clijsters came out of retirement at the age of 26 after having a child and won three Grand Slam titles.Australians Evonne Goolagong and Margaret Court also won Grand Slam titles after having children.Former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, 27, won the Indian Wells and Miami titles in March of last year before missing the rest of the season after announcing she was expecting a baby in December.Since the birth of son Leo, Azarenka has returned to training and plans to return to competition at the WTA tournament in Stanford, California, in July.
Facebook2Tweet0Pin0 Submitted by Mayor Buxbaum for The City of Olympia Since last Thursday’s officer involved shooting, many community members have reached out to the City Council, City Manager, and Police Chief to share their thoughts, hopes, fears, and support. We have and continue to listen.Last night the Olympia City Council cleared its agenda so that we could hear from everyone who wished to speak at the Council’s regularly scheduled meeting. Over 160 individuals came to City Hall in a show of solidarity and concern, with an additional 50-60 people demonstrating in front of the building. In nearly 2 hours of public comment, we heard from 34 individuals.Last Thursday, within 24 hours of the incident, several of us attended a listening session at Temple Beth Hatfiloh organized by local clergy. Nearly 200 individuals attended. They respectfully shared their perspectives and listened to each other. We have also been contacted by countless community members both in person and by email. I believe that we are all moved by the depth of concern and feelings expressed by our community the past few days. There must and will be transparency, objectivity, and accountability in Olympia. We are challenged at this time as we wait for the investigation to conclude. It’s appropriate to emphasize that the current investigation is a criminal investigation of all parties – the two individuals, Bryson Chaplin and Andre Thompson, and the Olympia police officer, Ryan Donald. The outcome of that investigation is down the road. In the meantime, we must continue our dialogue and do our best to respond to all of the issues and interests that have been expressed by our citizens. We also understand that what happened in Olympia is being automatically tied by some to the current very important national debate and concerns over race and social justice. Feelings have been heightened by incidents and reactions in other cities around the country. We believe that Olympia can and will make important contributions to this national debate. At the same time, we will and must make certain that we remain committed to focusing on the facts of our own case in our pursuit of unbiased justice here in Olympia. It is difficult, yet we must separate the deep cultural issues related to race and social justice from the criminal investigation. Removing bias and preconceptions is the path to justice. We very much appreciate the care and concern and interest expressed by our citizens. We believe Olympia is both a strong and very special community that will learn from this current experience and grow stronger as a result.

Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Some warmer air pushes into Ohio today, and that warmer surge lingers through the weekend. We are making a few changes to our forecast this morning, one in the short haul (tomorrow) and one farther out (the finish of next week). In general, we still look for a more active precipitation pattern and a more variable temperature pattern as we transition through the rest of this month and into November.Sunny and warm today. Tomorrow we see partly sunny skies. Clouds may thicken a little in the afternoon, and we cant rule out a spit or sprinkle overnight, but generally, we see less of a threat of moisture tomorrow night than we had been seeing earlier this week. This will be a welcome development. Keep an eye on the sky, but generally we think most of the state can escape. Sunday looks mostly sunny and we remain warm.Rain totals Monday afternoon through Tuesday middayWe are bringing our next strong cold front faster now. Clouds increase Monday morning and midday, and we can see showers and thunderstorms arriving already in the mid afternoon. Rains continue overnight and will end by mid morning Tuesday at the latest. In fact, we could even be rain free in western Ohio at sunrise, with showers only needing to leave eastern Ohio by midday. However, rain totals look more impressive. We think we could see rain totals of half to 1.5″ over 100% of Ohio. The totals of an inch or more are heavily dependent on thunderstorms, but with the storm coming sooner, the timing is better for some thunderstorms, at least in western Ohio.Dry behind the front for the balance of Tuesday and then Wednesday and Thursday. It will be cold Tuesday afternoon and night, then temps moderate by Thursday. Sunshine should be the dominant feature for most of daytime hours.Late next week and weekend our next storm system looks much more impressive. We are going to be slow to move our official rain forecast totals once again, just like we were slow to drop rain from the forecast for this period earlier this week when models tried to take it out. The front is there. Its intensity and duration are up for debate. Some models have rain solid for 3 days. We think this will be more of a fast moving front, and the stalled boundary manifests farther south. In any case, continue to look for at least .25″-1″ of rain potential, and we may have to bump totals closer to 2 inches or more next week when we see a weekend’s worth of data. We are keeping fingers crossed for lower totals…as heavy rains at this point will really jack with harvest. The extended 11-16 day period has one minor precipitation event, but otherwise is mostly dry. Unfortunately it gets very cold, so that precipitation event could yield some snow. Monday the 28th will be mostly sunny and mild. Then clouds increase Tuesday the 29th, bringing evening and overnight precipitation. Temps fall fast, and we think we can see some rain showers, but also a few snow showers and flurries, particularly up north. Accumulations are not a concern at this point…but our first flakes of the season could be flying. The rest of the extended period is sunny, but cold from Wednesday the 30th through Saturday, November 2nd.
The new Essential Sound panel simplifies the process of editing a soundtrack directly in Adobe Premiere Pro.Cover image via Shutterstock.Adobe’s new Essential Sound Panel is easy to use while also allowing advanced users to manually fine-tune effect settings. Here is an explanation of the panel that demonstrates how it will save editors considerable time getting a good audio mix.Set Your Project to the Audio Workspace and Open the Essential Sound PanelIf you don’t see the workspace options at the top of your screen, you can change your workspace by going to Window/Workspaces/Audio. You should see the Essential Sound panel on the right, but if you don’t, go to the Window menu and select Essential Sound.Organize the Audio in Your Sequence by TrackKeeping your audio organized with track labels is always a good idea, but it’s even more important in the Essential Sound Panel workflow. In this example I have dialogue, sound effects, music, and ambience. Notice that there is sometimes more than one track for each category.Assign Your Dialogue to an Audio TypeLasso all of the clips you would like to include in the Dialogue group. Notice that the Dialogue, Music, SFX, and Ambience buttons in the Essential Sound panel are now active. Click the Dialogue button to open the options for manipulating the dialogue effect controls.Begin Editing the Characteristics of Your ClipsSimilar to the Lumetri Color controls, there are various categories of effect controls that you can expand or collapse. In this instance, I would normalize the volume so I can quickly make all of the dialogue in the sequence conform to a unified standard. Click the Loudness heading to open the controls pertaining to volume. Click Auto-Match for the fastest results by letting Adobe Premiere quickly conform all the selected audio clips to a uniform level.Apply Any Additional EffectsHere, I would like to apply different effects for the two main actors in my scene. Highlight the group of clips you wish to affect, and apply the settings using the slider controls in the Essential Sound Panel. In this case, I will reduce the hum and the rumble in the Repair category by manipulating the sliders. Notice that you can toggle the Repair category on or off to compare the before and after results. After establishing the overall setting for all of your dialogue, click on the clip you wish to fine-tune, and open the Effect Controls window for access to individual controls for effects. Experiment with other options such as Clarity in the Dynamics category to further improve your audio.Auto-Match the Volume of Background AmbienceSelect all of your clips associated with the background ambience in your edit and assign them to the Ambience category by clicking the Ambience button in the Essential Sound panel. Click on the Auto-Match button to normalize the audio to a uniform rate.Improve Your Mix with Creative and Stereo WidthDepending on your clip, change the preset to something that describes the location of your scene. In my case, I will choose Room Ambience, and I will adjust the slider to achieve a more realistic sound for my office ambience clips. Take it a step further by adding a Stereo Width effect to create the perception of a more dramatic stereo effect.Customize the Volume and Duration of Your TrackBy clicking on your music track and assigning it to the Music category in the Essential Sound panel, you can normalize the volume using the Auto-Match button and the background music preset. Additionally, you can customize the duration of the music track by opening the Duration menu in the Essential Sound panel. Either type in a new duration for your music clip or click and drag to increase or decrease the duration of the selected clip(s). After you hit play, your computer will briefly render the track to play at a new speed to fit the desired duration.Apply Room Sound or Other EffectsYou can assign all of your sound effects to the SFX category in the Essential Sound panel. Here you can change the loudness, add room sound or reverb, and pan the audio left or right.Save Your Settings in Adobe AuditionWith the timeline selected, go to the Edit menu and select Edit in Adobe Audition then select Sequence. The dialogue box defaults to preserving all of your edits, including any keyframes on clips such as volume and panning. Adobe Audition then automatically creates a multi-track session that contains all of the work you completed in Adobe Premiere Pro.Do you have any tips for the Essential Sound Panel?
